Moog is a company well known for its high precision hydraulic motion control systems frequently used in the aerospace industries. I was directly involved with the product development and environmental test engineers in the Aircraft Division of the company. This experience completely reshaped my perspective on engineering as a profession, and by the end of my co-op time at the company, I felt like I was being treated as a real engineer as I worked directly with other engineers. I was truly blessed with this work experience and opportunity to apply and develop my classroom skills in a hearty and relatively sophisticated mechanical engineering environment.
A brief summary of my work:
- Safety of Flight and Qualification Testing analysis, documentation, and reports for the purpose of qualifying Moog products for use on commercial and military aircraft.
- Risk Mitigation Testing for the purpose of proving several design changes relating to corrosion resistance and metal coating properties.
- Test Equipment Design, Assembly, and Troubleshooting for the purpose of batch screening high precision Rotary Magnetic Encoders. Integration with software and electronics.
- Preliminary Test and Test Procedure Development for the purpose of qualifying early post-development product designs for eventual use on commercial aircraft.
